If I remember correctly, Dr. Iacoboni stated in his book that further research would have to be done to elucidate what genetic or environmental agent or combination of the two would cause a dysfunction of the mirror neuron system. However, the fairly widely replicated research that suggests that the mirror neuron system likely plays a role in autism will help open the doors to possible research on causative agents which I hope will be found at some point.jonathanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14972394536850151087noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8353442983052145851.post-66979211277237607352009-04-14T12:42:00.000-07:002009-04-14T12:42:00.000-07:00I am sorry for not reading your post in full, it l...I am sorry for not reading your post in full, it looks good and you have been giving serious thoughts to it; but generally speaking these types of analysis are conducted on adults or teenagers with HFA/AS, and it is not clear how the findings are relevant to the whole spectrum. The second thing I’d like to say is that any abnormality identified in anyone and in any disease/condition does not imply causality, right. And if these abnormalities are a consequence of the autistic mind, what caused it in the first place? A brain abnormality such as mirror neuron differences does not explain immune deregulation, does not explain regressive autism, does not explain gastro-intestinal dysfunction, in fact it explains very little other than some issue of imitation which are commonly found yes, but unlikely central. To buy in that theory is to refute the broader realty of today’s autism, it serves to comfort the mind with traditionalist views of what autism is. It’s an easy way out, it's a blinker.SM69https://www.blogger.com/profile/16239400845268784984noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8353442983052145851.post-77515406761745179422009-04-14T02:55:00.000-07:002009-04-14T02:55:00.000-07:00Jonathan I agree with the first commenter, excelle...Jonathan I agree with the first commenter, excellent post.

This does look like a promising area of research.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05838571980003579163noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8353442983052145851.post-17929048464915372912009-04-13T16:12:00.000-07:002009-04-13T16:12:00.000-07:00Excellent post Jonathan.
